We support all DBS members to access and experience a wealth of opportunity in the community so that they can make friends, contribute, and live life to the fullest - the way they want to.
We start by working with each member and their loved ones to identify their strengths, wants and needs. We use this information to design a bespoke scheme of support and activities to promote maximum independence, autonomy and enjoyment in line with their care plan.
what we do
faq

When does the day start and end?
Our services are bespoke to individual’s needs, but days usually start between the hours of 8am and 10am and finish between 3.30pm and 5pm.
When is lunch?
No set time. Lunch time varies between services and depend on individual needs and on activities taking place.
How many members are there at Parchment Trust?
We have around 180 members across all services who meet at our sites and out in the community, so there are lots of opportunities to make friends.
On an average day around 40 DBS members will attend a service.
How many staff are there at Parchment Trust?
We have around 130 staff and volunteers working across all services.
Around 80 staff work in DBS.
What are the facilities like?
All our sites are wheelchair accessible. Friary Nursery has a fully operational 'Changing Places' washroom, and our Theaklen Drive site offers beds, hoists, sensory tent and a disabled toilet. Most of our services are community based so we are able to use community 'Changing Places' toilets and other facilities.
What activities are on offer throughout the day for DBS members?
Activities are designed according to each person’s care plan and goals. Some popular activities are National Trust walks and visiting places of interest, theatre trips, shopping trips, swimming, adapted cycling, learning cooking and other life and work skills. We also support personal care and attendance at health appointments such as hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and SaLT.
How does transport work?
We provide bespoke services to a number of people from different areas using appropriately adapted vehicles. We collect members from their home/respite addresses.
What do members need to bring with them?
We ask everyone to bring weather appropriate clothing and a packed lunch if required.
How do we work with parents and carers?
DBS continues to form strong working relationships with members’ families, circles of support and other organisations and individuals. These relationships serve to enrich the lives and increase opportunities for our members.
